Thierry Rocher works asdeputy head to the Office for Student Assessment of the DEPP (Assessment, Forecasting and Performance Directorate of the French Ministry of Education) in France. Thierry has an initial background in mathematics (trained at the school of the National Institute of Statistics), a Master’s Degree in Statistics and a PhD in Psychology-Psychometrics. As a specialist in educational measurement, Thierry has set up, organized and lead various assessment projects and worked for several years as an expert or representative in international assessments (eg. member of the PISA Technical Advisory Group, member of the IEA Standing Committee). Thierry has actively contributed to develop many nationalassessment programmes through which he gained an extensive view of the stakes related to assessment. Thierry also actively contributes to strengthen the assessment culture among actors, policy-makers and researchers in education.
